I am so thankful to be able to write this blog!My mother's hands--which have worked so hard over the course of her lifetime and which have helped so many people, most especially myself--have been afflicted with a painful blistering and peeling for the last two or three years.
At its worst, the condition was so bad that my mother had to keep her hands bandaged because they were bleeding constantly. Because of the intense pain, she could not do alone many normal activities that we take for granted. Thankfully, my wonderful father was always there to help, but it was still very frustrating for her.
One of the best hand dermatologists in the nation happens to be just an hour away from us, and so--after much encouragement--my mother made an appointment with him. But the waiting list was long to see this very special doctor, and so she had many, many months to wait.
Her condition got so bad and doctors were so puzzled that I didn't know what else to do except to beg God for her healing. I asked everyone I could to please pray, and in January I took her to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. I even set a repeating alarm on my phone so that each night at 9 PM, I would be reminded to pause and say a "Hail Mary" for her.
I am thankful to say that today she is virtually healed from the condition. Her hands look totally normal, except for a few brittle finger nails which may take a year to finally recover. In fact, the renowned doctor that she finally met with this week said that she is one of the rare "success stories" for such a debilitating hand condition. We're pretty sure she was allergic to rubber, a great inconvenience, since one touch of it could spark a problem that would not become visible on the hands until 4 months later.
Yes, today my mother's hands look beautiful and normal, and I thank God for her healing and for the intercessory prayers of all my friends, family, and the angels and saints!
