To celebrate today's Marian feast day, I'm throwing a little dinner party tonight. :)
True, a girl shouldn't try a new recipe when she's got new guests coming over, but all of my cooking experiences are new these days, given that cooking is a rather new adventure for me. Please pray for me!
The recipe I found online had only two steps to it and thus endeared itself to me immediately.
But, by the time I was finished, I had altered the recipe so much that indeed I had a completely new creation.
So, last night, I was up until Midnight, wearing my favorite apron while I cooked and listened to Christmas music.
It was windy and freezing outside, and it felt good to be in the kitchen preparing something hearty and hot! Macy sat and watched me work the whole time, always ready to help me with the clean up of anything that might drop to the floor.
With dried rosemary, minced garlic, ground pepper, and paprika, I seasoned these massive pork chops, then browned them in the skillet with olive oil and this ubiquitous browning sauce (that apparently everybody uses when they do this sort of thing).
With my favorite baby blue knife from Switzerland, I chopped up a red onion, several carrots, celery, and red potatoes. I plopped everything into my beloved crock pot, then dowsed it all with beef broth, putting a few sprigs of fresh parsley on top. Yum!
And then I...panicked.
It dawned on me that didn't have a cork screw with which to remove the cork from my bottle of red wine. I had decided that I would toss a half-cup of it into the crock pot, just to add a little flavoring. And now I couldn't. :-(
To the computer I went, hoping that Mom and Dad would be near my house the next day, as they often are when they go out for breakfast. Was there any way they could stop by with a cork screw and pour in some red wine for me?
They still haven't replied to my email yet, and I'm getting nervous. Pray for me, dear reader, that this made-up recipe is a success! I have really have no idea what I'm doing. But I'm trying!
