Saint Paul's Outside the Walls

Michael was very eager to take me to St. Paul's Church, which is outside the walls of the Roman Empire. 

Although he has been to Rome before, his time there was limited and he did not see much of the city.  It was exciting to be able to experience new things with him this time around!

Beneath the main altar is St. Paul's tomb, along with the chains that once held him prisoner.

We visited St. Paul's on the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary...so it was quite appropriate that the Holy Spirit should have us encounter a huge altar dedicated to that exact feast day!
