Our State of the Union Address

On the first of every month, Michael and I have a State of the Union Address.

But we don't talk about politics and policy.  We don't discuss legislation or taxes.

Rather, it's a State of Our Marriage Union Address.  We talk about what things we're doing well and what areas need improvement.

We vocalize what we love about each other and we bring to light what we need from one another in order to be a better version of ourselves.

It helps us to remember our ultimate goal of Heaven, in helping one another to rely more on God and ultimately to become a saint.

We have only 5 questions for each of us to ask and answer, and these usually spawn a lengthy conversation that clears the air, re-calibrates ourselves, and ultimately makes us feel MUCH better.  As a result, our marriage becomes STRONGER and we become a better version of ourselves.

Here's what they are:

1. What things are going well in our marriage?
2. What areas need improvement?
3. What things do I need to ask your forgiveness for?
4. How can I help you on the path to holiness?
5. What do I love about you?

When this routine first began for us, both of us were a bit nervous and unsure of how it'd go.  But now that we've come to expect it on the first of every month, we're better communicators DURING the month.  If you're married, give it a try and let me know how it goes by leaving a comment!  :)
