Planting My Secret Little Time Capsule

This week our principal took a few of us on a tour of the new school we are having built. We should be occupying it by January, and I am so excited!

My little heart was beating fast as I walked down the hallway that lead to my new classroom. The rush of knowing that I will be the FIRST teacher in that room is incredibly exciting!

I lingered a bit longer in my room as the rest of the crowd walked away. This gave me just enough time to survey the floors and walls and look for a tiny place in which to deposit a little crucifix, Miraculous Medal, and St. Benedict medal. Finally, I found the perfect place, right near where I will be spending most of my time standing and teaching.

In this thin little space between two cinder blocks, I wedged them, pushing them further in with a piece of metal I found on the ground, so that they would be deep within the wall and impossible to see or pick out.

I took photographs to remember the precise location of these blessed items. As you can see in the photograph at right, they are located on the East wall, which will be my main teaching location. In this photograph, the large classroom windows are on the right wall, facing South. My little blessed items are in the second row of cinder blocks, just below and to the left of what will probably be an electric outlet.

The arrow in the last photograph points to their precise location. If you look closely, you may even be able to see the safety pin that holds them all together. To zoom in, simply click on the photo to see a larger view.

I'm so glad that I had success planting my secret little time capsule! Shh...don't tell my principal! :-)

Every day, I will always be near these blessed items when I teach. And maybe one day, many, many years from now, if the building would ever be demolished, perhaps a construction worker will look down and catch a glimpse of them, shining and reflecting the sunlight, finally free from the wall, telling a silent story from my life.
