My Little Baby Girl

I've grown very attached to one of the dove babies. The little baby girl has just crawled her way into my heart!

She is definitely named appropriately, for she is Meek in everything that she does.

My initial attraction was to the odd curvature of her beak. Quite different from her parents and brother, this little girl's beak curves in such a way that it looks as if she's smiling, just a little bit, all the time.

And perhaps my heart was drawn to her because I saw her as the runt of the little 2-dove litter. Her brother was first to fly and is always the quickest at picking up seeds and doing everything else.

The precious little girl, on the other hand, loves to be babied. Even though I have successfully seen her eat and drink on her own now, when her parents are nearby, she squeaks and gently flaps her little wings, hoping for a treat from her parents. Usually they indulge her. And who wouldn't want to?! :-)

She loves to cuddle and snuggle, and she will almost instantly fall asleep when you've got her in the palm of your hand.

Today, when I took a nap in my bed, I brought her with me. She nestled into my hand as I nestled into my blankets, and we both fell sound asleep for about 40 minutes!

These pictures are of yesterday's bath. She enjoyed splashing around in the little pool with her brother, but then he got water in her eyes, and she ended up squinting and closing them for a while afterward. Soon after that, she took a nap in my hands.

And so...I have decided to keep her! Her wonderful brother Mild will soon be adopted by my friend Shawn, who has been eagerly awaiting a baby ever since this time last year when Pure & Innocent came into my life. And the lovely thing is that the whole family will be able to keep in touch with each other, since Shawn will surely bring little Mild with him whenever he visits, reuniting the boy with his sister and parents!
