Bike Rides & Window Shutters

So...I bought myself a pretty bicycle!

It's light blue with old fashioned, white fenders and white walls on the tires. It even has a classic little bell ringer.

So today, in the glorious sunshine, I took it out -- for its premiere ride around the neighborhood.

My friend Andy rode along with me. When you're peddling through a cornfield on an empty farm road and the sky looks as blue as it did today, how can you not be utterly happy? For those moments, I was carefree.

On the way back, we stopped to admire the new school being built, just a half-mile from my house. I felt so privileged to look at it with appreciative eyes, knowing which windows would be my future classroom in just a few months!

A wonderful woman named Lori came to my house this afternoon and took pictures of my place! I felt so honored that--immediately after entering--she ran out to her car to get her camera! She runs a fabulous shop called Archeologie, where I have gotten several of my decor pieces. This month she was featured in a magazine spread, and she stopped by today to drop off a beautiful dressing screen, the kind that women are supposed to seductively change clothes behind, while throwing something feminine over the edge.

I fell in love with this piece 2 years ago, for it is uniquely made out of four large window shutters that have half-circle tops. Each shutter is a slightly different color and is weather-beaten. Lori wasn't ready to part with it 2 years ago, but finally today she was! I was soooo excited to welcome it into my home!

And so it resides now in my bedroom (with a hanging pot of flowers on it), and I can't wait to change clothes behind it!!

In fact, I think I shall do so RIGHT NOW, since it is bedtime! Why not!

The unfortuante thing, however, is that I'm still wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt from today's bike ride, and neither of those would look very attractive being flung over the edge. Likewise, the pajamas I plan to wear tonight are my cozy flannel cloud-covered kind, also lacking in attractibility. Oh well. It's not like anybody's going to be watching me anyway. Here I go!
