Our little group unexpectedly joined up last summer. At first, it felt weird because our ages are all over the place. Shawn is quite younger than me; Andy is older than me.
But somehow our 3 personalities mesh. At various times, we each need each other. And we always learn from each other. And each one of us brings something different to the conversation, objective, or task-at-hand that seems to make us each quite valuable to one another. We are one another's assets.
I like it when they're both here at my house, keeping me company. When he's not playing my green piano, Shawn is usually talking about the struggles of his life, and these so closely mirror my own that at times I feel like I am listening to myself speak.
When he's not playing the green piano (or, maybe, even when he is), Andy is always full of good ideas that neither Shawn nor myself would ever think of on our own. He brings an experienced, practical, and calm wisdom to the conversation. Shawn brings a youthful passion. And I'd like to think that I bring a feminine perspective to the conversation that neither guy would see otherwise.
I'm sure we get annoyed with each other for various reasons. Yet we're always there for each other, in every interesting twist that life gives us. These are the guys that pick me up when I fall down, each one grabbing me by the arm. They can most assuredly be counted on.Tonight I served them dinner out on my back deck. Then we came inside and played with my doves in the basement for about an hour, constantly talking about our faith as we went.
I even got the chance to wash a huge pile of dishes in hot soapy water while Andy sat on the chair I had pulled into the kitchen and Shawn paced around my little kitchen, all of us analyzing life and talking about trust in God.
We finished the night by praying the Rosary in my Prayer Room, illuminated only by candlelight. And before leaving, each guy rummaged through my "Religious Grab Basket" of goodies to pick an item to take with them. :-)
What would I do without these guys? They are an incredible gift to my life. Every girl should be so lucky to have two wonderful guys she can always count on!
