A Christmas Surprise...and Now a Tradition :)

This Friday, Michael told me that I'd be getting my first Christmas gift...and that it would be the start of a yearly tradition for us.

I had no idea where we were going when we pulled out of the driveway.

And, try as I might to figure out our destination, the paths we were traveling were unmarked territory for me.  I was pleasantly puzzled!

Suddenly before us was a beautiful castle-like building which sat high upon a mountain.

The building glowed as we ascended toward it, and the lawn was covered in beautiful white Christmas lights.

He had taken me to the Sight & Sound Theater, a place to which I had never been before but had always wanted to go!

Sight & Sound is Lancaster County's premiere theater for musicals with a Christian message!  That night we would be seeing the nativity story in Miracle of Christmas.  I was so excited!!

The stage was six stories tall and spanned 180 degrees, and so we looked left and right, in addition to straight ahead.  There were horses and donkeys and sheep walking through the aisles, and when the wise men came to worship Baby Jesus, they rode past us on real camels!

Men dressed as beautiful angels glided through the sky, and when St. Michael fought off an evil angel in order to protect Mary as she was giving birth to Christ, a white and golden fireworks exploded in the air.  It was so impressive!  The actors were incredible singers, and the set was elaborately decorated and so true to life!

What I loved most about the nativity story was how the playwright depicted the beautiful and chaste romance between Mary and Joseph.  How beautiful their relationship must have been!  I enjoyed seeing the two of them joyfully sing and run around together, their faith and love for God always at the center of how they lived their lives.

It pained me to watch how Mary was ridiculed by so many of the townspeople, her friends, and her family when she explained her pregnancy to them.  What strength she had to go into exile for a while, as she traveled alone to visit St. Elizabeth and St. Zachariah, praying to God that St. Joseph would eventually come to understand her divine conception and believe in her faithfulness to him and to God.  And, of course, St. Joseph, with his huge and compassionate heart, came to know this truth also.

It was a great musical!  If you have a chance to go, take it!!
