This year, Macy (my beloved golden retriever) decided to declare her love for Smokey (the dog next door).
She wrapped in red tissue paper a treat made of crushed rawhide that had been dyed red and pressed into the shape of a heart. So cute!
Placing the heart in a decorative bag and affixing a love note (that included pictures of her), Macy walked with me to deliver the surprise.
Smokey was overjoyed at seeing her through the glass door and barked excitedly until his owners let him out.
My neighbors told me that Smokey begins every morning with Macy. They explained that he listens carefully for the sound of my front door opening in the mornings.
Once he hears Macy step out, he scratches at the door until he is let out. If he's let out before she comes out, he waits patently for her by watching our door step while sitting on his porch. So cute!
The morning routine, my neighbors explained, is that the dogs usually sniff around the front yard together, sniff each other's posteriors, and watch the sun rise. So cute!
Several of my friends have remarked that, in their morning commute past my house, they always look forward to seeing Macy sitting on my front stoop, waiting to be let back in. Many people have said that she always looks so stately, waiting for me. She sits up properly and looks out at the road, watching the cars go by. So cute!
I hope everyone had a blessed feast of St. Valentine. God bless the canine romance that is brewing! :)
